Oh, uh...hmmmmm.

This one's a doozy to explain. I've seen the idea kicking around a bit, and figured, why not? I always enjoy the challenge of trying to explain something legitimately, but rather than bore you with textbook-style detail, here's a snippet of dialogue from a hypothetical scenario, where Wolf looks to meet with Peppy Hare, commander of the Cornerian Army, to look into being hired as a mercenary in the same vein as his archrival, Star Fox. A hopeless scenario, perhaps, until one unlikely individual makes an offer...

"You. Want to join Star Wolf."

"Don't even think for a second that's not an offer you could do without. You've been the scum royale of Lylat for years, Mr. O'Donnell, but now you want to be a legitimate mercenary. You can swallow your pride and act nice, but you have a lot of people to convince that your heroics against the Aparoids and Anglars weren't flukes."

"And so what are you? My PR intern?"

"I'm going to be your tactician. You're all brawn and no brains...probably literally...so you need someone who knows how to keep things in line, make the smart decisions, provide the trust you guys never developed. Poppa's told me the stories of what you guys did...he wouldn't talk so highly of your good deeds if he didn't think there was some value behind them. If I can help you guys show Lylat you're capable of being more than pirates-for-hire, than maybe there is life after death for y'all."

"That's awfully sweet of you, darlin', but a tag-along's going to do us more harm than good."

"Tag-along?"

"I've been flying almost as long as you've been alive. I've fought wars, fought entire legions of enemies without breaking a sweat. What you could claim for experience, if anything, doesn't hold water against veterans like us."

"Is that what you told Slippy before he shot down you and your team on Fichina?"

"Uh..."

"As far as my experience, I'd call on the Anglar fleet that invaded Corneria as a reference, but they kinda got wiped out when I showed up."

"..."

"We can work on the whole arrogance thing, too...people around here don't go for that. Anyway, poppa's not going to be too keen on the whole scenario, so why don't you let me handle the negotiations, okay? See ya later...darlin'."

"..."

"...Heh heh, I think you just got 'schooled.'"

"Shut up, Leon."
